HISTORY

Kolomyia Institute of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University is tertiary educational institution of the IV level of accreditation, the mission of which, pursuant to the concept of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine on the advancement of education in Ukraine, is to provide educational needs of Pokuttia district and continuity of the education process.

The Institute was established by the Ministerial decree No. 218 of 24 June 1999 and the Rector’s decree No. 102 of 30 June 1999 as an affiliated branch of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian University. The Institute’s objective is to carry out educational, methodological, scholarly, morale building and cultural activities; to ensure quality specialist training for professional engagement; to organize independent educational and research work of students; to organize retraining and professional development of specialists.

There are students from Ivano-Frankivsk as well as Lviv, Bukovyna, Zhytomyr, and Ternopil regions. The Institute offers undergraduate courses on 013 Primary education, 014 Secondary education (Ukrainian language and literature), 014 Secondary education (Physical culture) both as full-time attendance and extramural coupled with 014 Secondary education (History), 053 Psychology as extramural form of study solely.

The Institute’s functionality is provided by three departments which employ the accomplished tutors holding scientific titles and with a proper level of training. The highly skilled experts of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University also impart their knowledge to the students.

The academic affairs of the Institute are represented by various scientific publications throughout Ukraine provided by a cadre of instructors, issuing educational and methodical literature, participating in international, all-Ukrainian, and regional academic conferences. The Institute issues volumes of annual conference proceedings, numerous compilations of collective scholarly works as well as monographs.

The students are not shied away from the scientific efforts. Their first steps towards it are taken as participants in annual student conferences. The best manuscripts of student conferences are published in the annual university-wide printing Eureka.

Under the guidance of the administration and the group mentors, students are actively involved in public, cultural and sports-oriented work. There is a student council, which organizes both leisure time and everyday life.
